Mohnish Behl is a matchmaker

Mohnish Behl will be seen co-hosting Star Plus’ Star Vivaah with Additi Shirwaiker on May 13. The matrimonial-styled show, which will air every Monday through Friday at 2pm, will have Behl interviewing eligible bachelors and bachelorettes. Then, the personal IDs of these singletons will be given out so that audience members interested can contact them.
Mohnish hopes that his questioning is detailed enough to help make good matches. He also hopes to address serious issues through the show. He says, “Star Vivaah has a social cause as well. On the show, you can actually look into the home of a boy or a girl. No matrimonial site can provide you with that much information. Marriage is a huge step, but not many people know about the rituals and their significance. We’re going to talk about that. We’ll also have experts coming on the show to talk about various aspects of married life.”

In this interview, Mohnish talks about the show, the movies he has lined up, the values he wants to instill in his daughters and much more…

What advice will you give Star Vivaah’s contestants?
I’m no authority on marriage; I’m just a man who has 17 years of experience. But I’ll tell them a few things that are not only applicable to married people but for every relationship. You need to think of the other person by putting yourself in their position. Looking at a situation from another person’s point of view improves understanding and helps you adjust.

What made you decide to host Star Vivaah?
First of all, it is a tremendously social platform. Secondly, my exposure, on a personal level, to different people will help me grow as a human being. Thirdly, I accepted because it is airing on Star Plus. I keep joking with them saying, ‘You have shown so many fights on saas-bahus, now do some good work by bringing people together!’

As a host, what is your role on the show?
While Aditi asks questions about romantic dates and things like that, I am more concerned about practical issues which matter in the long run: whether the candidate is settled in life, does he drink or smoke? Things like that. And most of all, I have to avoid passing judgment which is a big responsibility. For example, we had a boy on the show who was showing us his karate moves. He said that he wanted to be an actor so I asked him whether he was trying to get exposure via the show. He said, ‘Bravo, bull’s eye’. I was taken aback and told him that a wedding is a serious subject. So we do come across incidents like this but in the end, the audience has to choose whom they would like to contact.

Do you believe in the arranged marriage system?
I cannot say much about the process because I have not gone through one myself. But I do not think that it is bad. I just feel that there should be more transparency. It should not be that because a boy and a girl match certain criteria, their marriage is fixed.

You have two daughters. What expectations do you have for them with regards to marriage?
I only want them to be true human beings. I want them to be independent and capable of doing everything.

What kind of father you are?
I am very strict and disciplined. I think it is a good thing because I was brought up in the same way. I don’t like girls who wiggle out of things and are dodgy about telling their parents their whereabouts. I have always told my elder daughter that she should tell me everything because there is nothing that she could do that would make me turn my back on her. I say, ‘I will always be your father; you can take that for granted but just be honest.’

Tell us about your newborn baby daughter.
Her name is Krisha, she is four-months-old and she has just started smiling. I love her; she has come into our lives 16 years after my elder daughter was born. My wife had a miscarriage five years ago. After that, we tried but she wasn’t able to get pregnant. Even so, we wanted a natural pregnancy so we didn’t undergo any treatment. Interestingly, my first daughter was born after my mother passed away and my second daughter was born just after my father past away. I think my family was always supposed to be of four members. My elder girl Nutan is doing her graduation in commerce right now. She wants to do her MBA aboard. She is also learning dance. She came in the other day and did the salsa.

Tell us something about your upcoming film Rann.
Amiitji’s (Bachchan) is the personification of what the media should be in terms of pure and honest news reporting, upholding social and moral fabric. On the other hand, my character is the exact opposite of what TV reporters can become: someone who’ll do anything to boost the ratings of the TRP-hungry channels. The film revolves around the clash of these two thoughts. It is shown in a very dramatic manner.

Any other projects lined up?
I am doing a Ken Ghosh movie that is tentatively titled Yahoo, with Shahid Kapoor. I am also starring in another film directed by Sameer Karnik which also features Bobby Deol and Kangna Ranaut. I am very lucky that I am being offered different roles. When we were shooting for Hum Saath Saath Hai, Salman (Khan) told me something very interesting. He said, ‘Moni, you know that you are the lead in this film.’ I told him I wasn’t the lead but he was. Then he said, ‘Kahani wise you are the lead, I might be romantic lead .You are the principle figure in the movie.’ He asked me whether I would accept a similar role after the movie was complete and I said no, I’d be mad to do it. That’s when he said that I made a wise decision.

Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai are all set to dazzle the silver screen once again because they have just signed on for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next project Guzzaarish.

There are a couple of highlights that one must not miss out about this film, one is that the explosive Jodhaa Akbar couple is back and the second is that the music for this film will be composed entirely by Bhansali himself.

Bhansali is taken up by the idea that some legendary directors did the music of their films all by themselves eg: Satyajit Ray

According to sources, Bhansali has completed four of the proposed eight tracks in the film.

Currently, Roshan is busy with his next film Kites and Aishwarya is busy with her next film Raavana, but this film is expected to hit the floors by July.

‘Terminator Salvation’

Posted by tfreak On May - 24 - 2009

Are you ready for a sneak peek at tomorrow’s blockbusters today? Check out our new series “Behind the Screen” Sunday night at 11 p.m. on MTV for the broadcast premiere of the “Brüno” trailer, an exclusive clip of Brad Pitt in Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds,” the very first visit to the set of Russell Brand’s “Get Him to the Greek” and much more!

Whether you’re a casual viewer or someone so hard-core that you’ve got an Arnold catchphrase tattooed across your “I’ll Be” back, the “Terminator” franchise can get pretty confusing. With millions of soon-to-be-harvested humans having now seen “Salvation,” we took some of their burning (and spoiler-heavy!) questions straight to the stars.

Christian Bale: Yes, it hasn’t been invented in this movie, so it can’t be utilized yet. He knows entirely that there’s a bizarre situation where he knows Kyle Reese — who is a teenager but who is his father — and that he’ll have to send him back in time. But Kyle Reese is not aware of that.

Q: Skynet made Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington) so he thinks he’s human, and there are huge strategic benefits to that. So why didn’t they do the same with such future models as the T-800 and the T-1000?

McG: The reason they made Marcus the way they made him is because they wanted to keep enough humanity intact for him to be an infiltration unit. He’s not necessarily a “Terminator.” It’s almost as if Skynet had a big gun theory: Let’s throw a T-800 at him; didn’t work. T-1000 liquid metal? Came up short. T-X, the girl who can adjust her cup size? Still didn’t work. So, they’ve thought in a revolutionary capacity, which is articulated by the Serena (Helena Bonham Carter) character that will lure him in by using trust — the most human out of all human characteristics. Marcus was never there to overtly kill — he was there to infiltrate.

Q: If Marcus Wright is such a threat to the Resistance, why didn’t Kyle Reese warn Sarah to tell John to watch out for him when he went back in time in the first “Terminator”?

Anton Yelchin: When Connor sent Kyle back, that was a world in which Kyle wasn’t Connor’s father. So when he sent him back, it then started this chain of the Connor that you have in [all the sequels] where Kyle Reese is his father — it’ll be interesting how they tackle that [in future sequels] if we ever get to a point we have to send [Kyle] back.

Q: If the purpose of a Moto-Terminator is to bring stray humans back to the Harvester, how does it do that? Does it have arms that we just aren’t seeing?

McG: There’s a mechanism built into the Moto-Terminator that is something that’s almost catapult-like in nature, designed to use the actual weight of the machine itself to haul that which it is pursuing until the Harvester can come and collect it. Then [the humans] will be placed into transport and taken back to a Skynet facility where they’ll be doing nasty testing on our stem cells — in the interest of creating tissue that can live in a titanium chassis.

Q: Why can’t John tell Kyle Reese that he’ll someday become his father? Would that knowledge change their future or something?

Christian Bale: Exactly, exactly. [Reese] shouldn’t know that — there’s no benefit to him knowing that.

Q: Over the last few months, we’ve heard a lot of “Salvation” talk from actor Terry Crews, but he’s not in the film. Where’d he go?

McG: He’s there; he’s just got a bullet in his head. He’s lying there dead at the top of the [movie]. There was a beat where he interfaced with John Connor, going into the foxhole. It was designed to be a misdirect [with Crews saying] — “Are you Connor? The John Connor? The one who was supposed to do this, that and the other?” And you would realize, “Wow, Connor is now leading this mission.” But ultimately I felt that it was slowing down the opening thrust of the film. That Terry scene will be on the DVD.

Will the vampires grab more trophies than the slumdog? What was the year’s ultimate onscreen WTF moment? It’s up to you to decide the winners of the 2009 MTV Movie Awards. Vote now, and tune in on May 31 at 9 p.m. ET, when the big show airs live from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California.

Check out everything we’ve got on “Terminator Salvation.”

Liplock with Arshad Warsi

Posted by tfreak On May - 24 - 2009

Vidya Balan created a ruckus on the sets of Ishqiya recently when she refused to do a kissing scene she had initially agreed to do. Vidya suddenly developed a mood swing and said no to a liplock scene with her co-star Arshad Warsi in the film.

The scene was an intimate one which involved Arshad and Vidya but when she refused to smooch she shocked everyone. She had been informed earlier about the scene so naturally director Abhishek Chaubey was taken aback. He called producer Vishal Bhardwaj and informed him about the happening, but he was busy editing his other project Kaminey and so the scene was dropped altogether.

Aamir Khan loves portraying some thing completely different everytime. You saw him as the short-term memory loss patitent in Ghajini, the rebel with a cause in Rang De Basanti, a cricketer in Lagaan a Sardarji in an ad and a specialist teacher in Taare Zameen Par and now he is all set to helm the role of a mad man in his next film.

This film is all set to break barriers between the west and Bollywood as Oscar winner Kate Winslet has been approached to play the female lead opposite Aamir Khan.

The film is to be directed by Pan Nalin who made the previous film Valley Of Flowers.

The film is based on S’aadat Hassan Manto’s famous short story Toba Tek Singh.

While Aamir has been roped in to play the title role of Toba Tek Singh, Nalin has approached Oscar-winner Kate Winslet to play Dr. Sophie.

The film actors have not yet been decided but Nalin has said that if Kate doesn’t agree that he will approach Oscar-winner Rachel Wiesz for the role.

Sentenced to death

Posted by tfreak On May - 24 - 2009

Egyptian billionaire and former political figure Hisham Talaat Moustafa has been sentenced to death for the 2008 murder of Lebanese pop star Suzanne Tamim.

Yesterday (May 21) a Cairo court found Moustafa guilty of paying ex-policeman Muhsin Sukkari $2 million (£1.2 million) to murder Tamim in 2008.

As the verdict was read out, several people in the courtroom burst into tears and one fainted, reports BBC News.

Tamim was stabbed to death in Dubai last July shortly after she ended her relationship with Moustafa.

The court heard that Sukkari gained entry to Tamim’s flat by saying he was working for the building’s owner. He killed her as she opened her front door.

Moustafa’s lawyer Samir Shishtawi called the verdict “severe”, and said he would appeal. “I want to assure Talaat Moustafa’s family that this verdict will be overturned by the appeals court,” he said.

Suzanne Tamim originally gained fame in the Middle East after winning a ‘Pop Idol’-style contest in Lebanon in 1996.

Moustafa was a member of the upper house of the Egyptian parliament, and is known to have been close to President Hosni Mubarak’s son Gamal.
