Deepika Padukone is down with Malaria
There is sad news for all Deepika Padukone fans. The pretty actress, who is currently in London shooting for Sajid Khan’s Housefull, is down with malaria since the last four days. While she continued shooting for some time, she couldn’t help but cancel the shoot yesterday due to her frail health.
A source from the unit of Housefull said, “Deepika recently shot for a soap ad with Pradeep Sarkar, in which she had to be under the shower for a long duration. She’s been feeling under the weather since a few days. On Tuesday, she visited a nearby hospital to get her medical reports and she was diagnosed with malaria. Yesterday, she was feeling so weak that she did not shoot for the film at all. She’s making it a point to get adequate rest because she has a long shoot schedule ahead and she also has to be in Mumbai for a couple of days to promote Love Aaj Kal.”
“Deepika was upset that the shoot was called off because of her but Sajid and the rest of the crew insisted that she take rest. Earlier too she had shot for Om Shanti Om when she was seriously ill and she did the same this time. But yesterday, she was so unwell that she couldn’t manage to get out of bed,” added the source.

Good news on Balochistan in a few weeks, says minister
ISLAMABAD: There could be a ‘good news’ in two to four weeks about Balochistan as a result of secret ‘back-channel’ contacts, a minister told the Senate on Friday while ruling out talks with those seeking independence for the troubled province.

But Interior Minister Rehman Malik, while responding to an opposition member’s concern about a perceived ‘brewing conspiracy’ in the country’s largest but least populated province, ignored a query why Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani had not yet convened a promised all-parties conference on Balochistan.
However, he assured the house that ‘all 14 points’ recommended by an earlier parliamentary committee on Balochistan ‘are going to be implemented.’
A young Pakistan Muslim League-Q senator from Punjab, Jamal Khan Leghari, complimented Mr Gilani for handing over to Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh what Islamabad calls proofs of Indian involvement in Balochistan through its consulates in some border areas of Afghanistan when the two men met at the Egyptian seaside retreat of Sharm el Sheikh last week on the sidelines of a non-aligned summit.
The senator also voiced his serious concern about what he called a ‘East Pakistan-like situation’ developing in Balochistan where he said non-Balochi settlers, including teachers, were being ‘killed one by one’ and Pakistani flag was not allowed to fly on and national anthem not allowed to be sung in educational institutions in some areas.
Mr Malik, who said he ‘fully’ respected Mr Leghari’s sentiments, did not refer to India, which denies the charges, but told the house that Afghan President Hamid Karzai, whom he met recently, had agreed to the establishment of three bio-metric checkposts on the border to stop movement of militants he said were being trained in training camps in Afghanistan.
The minister acknowledged that the situation in Balochistan, which has witnessed a low-intensity insurgency for the past few years, ‘was bad,’ but said it was improving and would further improve in the future with the government seeking a consensus of all stakeholders about the future of the province.
‘But there can be no talks with those who talk of independence,’ he said and promised unspecified action against a Baloch nationalist leader, Harbayar Marri, over an allegedly separatist statement made in a recent interview in London for a Pakistani television channel.
‘With some back-channel talks going on, God-willing, problems will be resolved,’ Mr Malik said, and added: ‘Because of efforts to persuade those estranged, it is possible that I give you a better good news in 2-4 weeks.’
Mr Leghari asked why the government was not seeking deportation of Mr Marri, reported to be a leader of the so-called Balochistan Liberation Army that has claimed many incidents of violence in the province, particularly after the killing of Baloch nationalist leader Akbar Khan Bugti inside a cave hideout in a military operation in August 2006.
The minister called Mr Bugti a ‘martyr’ and said it was a fact that Balochistan had not been given its due rights and that the ‘distress will remain’ until these rights were given to the Baloch people.
He did not respond to Mr Leghari’s demand for the deportation of Mr Marri, a son of the veteran nationalist leader Khair Bkahsh Marri, but said ‘action will be taken’ regarding his statement that he did not recognise Pakistan.

Agyaat`s ’smoking’ hot number meets Censor trouble
The censor board seems to have regular problems with Ram Gopal Varma and his films. After the modified version of the national anthem from RGV’s film Rann created quite some controversy, his latest film Agyaat is facing censor issues. And again this time for a song from the film Agyaat .
The censor board has objected to a song from RGV’s Agyaat where the lead actress Priyanka Kothari is dancing to a song that goes like ‘ Jai Shri Shambhu ’ and at the same time is seen puffing a chillum. A line in the song even says ‘ Dum maaro, yehi hai sahara… ’ (smoking is the only support). The censor board has objected to this line in the song as it depicts substance abuse and urges audience to take chillum as relief. The Board has asked Ramu to re-edit the song but only for television trailers as substance abuse can’t be shown on TV.

Telenor posts 61% drop in Q2 profit

OSLO: Norwegian telecommunications group Telenor ASA on Thursday reported a 61 percent slump in second-quarter profit, due to sliding revenues and losses in its stake in Russian mobile operator VimpelCom.
Net profit tumbled to 1.38 billion kroner ($220 million) during the quarter, a sharp decline from 3.54 billion kroner in the same period last year. Second-quarter revenues held steady, slipping slightly to 26.9 billion kroner this year from 27.1 billion kroner in 2008.
The group’s shares closed up 1 percent at 53.93 kroner in Oslo.
A strong quarter for Telenor’s Bangladeshi, Norwegian, and Pakistani operations contributed to the sustained revenue stream.
However, the Nordic group sustained heavy losses in the Ukranian market, due both to that country’s ongoing recession and to drops in the value of Ukraine’s currency, Telenor vice president Paal Kvalheim said.
This year’s second-quarter revenues from the group’s Ukranian operation were almost 1 billion kroner lower than they were in the second quarter of 2008.
In addition, a 414 million kroner loss from associated companies, in particular due to write downs of Telenor’s VimpelCom stakes, was especially damaging to the Norwegian concern’s net profits.
In April, a Russian court ordered Telenor to pay $1.7 billion to VimpelCom as restitution for earlier dealings in Ukraine. The court also froze the Nordic company’s 29.9 percent stake in VimpelCom, pending further litigation. Telenor has appealed both rulings.
In a statement, Telenor CEO Jon Fredrik Baksaas called the VimpelCom claims “unfounded.”
The Nordic telecom group warned that losses attributable to VimpelCom are estimates and may change following an external audit of VimpelCom-related finances, which Telenor will finalize in the third quarter.
“For the rest of the year we expect revenues to remain under pressure. We will continue to scale our activities to deliver a strong operating cash flow and sustain our market positions,” Baksaas said. AGENCIES.
