Ha-ha moment of the day: Zarine Khan might be replacing Katrina in an upcoming sequel of David Dhawan’s Partner. And by the time cameras start rolling on that one, we are hopeful Zarine will have shed the mounds of biscuits accumulated on her frame. That is not why this is a ha-ha mo, though; that is purely directed towards the lovely Ms Kaif who was seen the past weekend attending a party with SRK.

Yes, she is a woman, and she should not have to restrict her social life because of her crazy beau, but word has it he is not really her beau anymore. Okay, so word has had it about them being together too but right now we are going with the broken up story for our own merriment.

Katrina has reportedly dumped Salman’s behind because Veer did not do so well. So she ventured out to Arjun Rampal’s birthday bash with SRK, looking nervous enough to hurl, according to onlookers.

And as it happens, numbers for Veer have started picking up as of the same weekend too. Ah, poetic justice- how we love you.

We wonder how Katrina feels about Zarine replacing her in Partner - can’t imagine her being too happy about - although we do know Zarine is in complete awe of Katrina and thinks she is beautiful. This is one story we can’t wait for to unfold.

MUMBAI: Popular Bollywood actor Salman Khan made his debut as a movie writer Friday (22nd January 2010) as his dream project “Veer” - meaning brave - hit screens across the country.

Described by its makers as an “epic love story of a warrior”, it is a film that has been in the making for more than two decades.

The mega-scale period drama is the brainchild of Khan who also plays the lead role in the movie.

The 44-year-old actor plays a tribal Pindari soldier leading a revolt against the British in the film set in 1857.

The project in the actor’s own words has been a “long and hard journey”.

“I am very tired promoting this film, tomorrow the film will be released and the audience will decide whether the film is a hit or flop, just waiting for the reaction,” he says.

Khan spent months learning horse riding to play the part of a warrior and also started blogging to promote the film.

On Friday, Khan arranged a special screening of the movie for poor and underprivileged children in Mumbai and entertained his young fans.

“Veer” has been directed by Anil Sharma and marks the big screen debut of newcomer Zarine Khan, who plays a Rajasthani princess.

“I would just say that go to the theatre near you and watch Veer. We have done lot of hard work, I just hope you all appreciate it and like it,” she says.

Shot extensively in Rajasthan and London, “Veer” is a story set in colonial India.

In a story of treachery and love, Veer avenges his father’s dishonour and wins the love of princess Yashodhara, his enemy’s daughter.

The film used thousands of real horses and other animals to recreate the period it is set in.

Other actors in the cast include Sohail Khan, Jackie Shroff and Mithun Chakraborty.

The producer of this movie is Vijay Galani and the music is given by Sajid-Wajid.

Khan, who has played a slew of macho roles in Hindi-language films, was sentenced in April 2006 to five years in prison for poaching a rare buck in a desert wildlife preserve in 1998.

He has denied any involvement in the incident.

The eldest son of famous Bollywood scriptwriter Salim Khan, he became a household name with his second film “Maine Pyar Kiya” or “I Have Loved” in 1989, followed by one of the biggest hits of the 1990s, “Hum Aapke Hain Kaun,” or “What Am I To You.”

Shahid Kapoor has been roped in as the Indian brand ambassador for Levi Strauss’ ‘Signature’ collection.

Kapoor has signed a one-year endorsement deal for the brand which can be further extended.

Says Levi Strauss & Co - India country manager Shumone Chatterjee, “India is a strong growth market for our brand and signing on Shahid as its face will help us create a closer connection with our young audience,”

The first campaign with Shahid Kapoor will be shot sometime next month.

Prior to Kapoor, Deepika Padukone was the Indian brand ambassador for the Levis Strauss Signature brand. Her contract ended in December 2008.

Akshay Kumar, meanwhile, is another Bollywood actor who is associated with this jeanswear. He endorses Levis 501 and has already shot an ad campaign for its summer camp collection. His contract ends in 2011.

We told you about Shahid Kapoor wearing bum bags to accentuate his hips . Now we hear his co-star from Parmeet Sethi’s untitled film, Anushka Sharma, is also wearing pads to, ahem, buttress her posterior, for her role in Patiala House opposite Akshay Kumar.

A source says, “Anushka is blessed with a thin figure, but had to look fit for Parmeet Sethi’s film. She is opposite Shahid Kapoor and is playing a glamourous role, so she had to be well-toned. She worked out regularly to stay slim.”

However, the weight loss is posing a little problem now, what with the actress playing a robust Punjabi kudi in her next, Patiala House, being directed by Nikhil Advani.

“Anushka is playing a typical North Indian girl who is required to look fuller, unlike the size zero girls in today’s films. In parts of the film, she will be dressed in Punjabi outfits like patiala salwars and short kurtis. When she wore the ethnic dresses, she was looking way too skinny. Punjabi girls are heavier on the lower body, especially the hips. Since Anushka nowhere resembled a Punjabi girl in that aspect, designer Jaimal Odedra decided to attach bum pads inside her salwars to make her derriere look heavier,” adds the source.

For the record, a bum bag is a small fabric pouch secured with a zipper and worn at the waist fastened with a strap around the hips.

However when quizzed about the bum bags, Jaimal denied suggesting them. “The film is about a Punjabi family based in London. Anushka plays a modern Punjabi girl. Anushka is well-toned and does not require them.”
