One-night stand is fine: Neha Dhupia

Posted by trixum On January - 1 - 2010

Neha Dhupia made headlines with her line ‘In India only SRK and Sex sell’. Now the focus is on her again with Pritish Nandy Communications’ Raat Gayi Baat Gayi releasing tomorrow.

The movie, produced by Rangita Pritish Nandy and directed by Saurabh Shukla, won the best film award at the HBO Asian International Film Festival in New York last month. Neha plays the mysterious gorgeous woman hunted down by Rajat Kapoor, Vinay Pathak and Dalip Tahil, after a night of lots of drinking, sex and zero memory! Ask her if it’s a bold role and she replies candidly, “If you are asking in terms of skin show, then no. But if being bold is a state of mind, then yes.” That’s Neha for you. Not one to mince words, the actress speaks to BT about relationships, sex and movies…

What’s your take on one-night stands?
The problem with one-night stands is that you end up hurting so many people. As long as you are not hurting any one, it’s fine.

In Raat Gayi Baat Gayi you have a one-night stand with a married man…
There are seven characters in the film! Why do you assume it’s my character who’s had the one-night stand? Are you assuming that because I am attractive… Not fair!

Do you think the Indian audience is opening up to sex in movies?
Dev D was a big hit. Indian audiences are open to fantastic scripts. Raat Gayi… is a funny kind of a thrilling experience that takes you through a drunken night. You don’t really know what happened last night. The film is packed with a lot of emotions and it is very relatable. You can relate to one or the other character.

You’ve done movies of various genres… what’s your favourite?
It’s very hard for me to say that. Right from my roles in Singh Is Kinng, De Dana Dan, Mithya, Ek Chaalis Ki Last Local to Raat Gayi Baat Gayi, everything is challenging and at the same time everything is easy. I don’t over-intellectualise the whole acting medium. I’m not working because I have to work. I’m working because I really enjoy doing so.

Are you happy with the way your career has shaped up so far?
I am. I had made a few mistakes, but I don’t regret anything. They have been learning experiences. I have come a long way, but I also have a long way to go…

Katrina flies to New York for date with Ranbir!

While the whole world believes that Katrina is recuperating in London with her family, a reliable London source tells us that she is actually in New York.

Incidentally, Ranbir Kapoor is also in New York shooting for Sajid Nadiadwala’s Anjaana Anjaani. Coincidence? We don’t think so.

Post her surgery in Mumbai, Katrina flew off to London claiming to spend New Year’s Eve with her family. Katrina, who ushers in the New Year with her mother and siblings each year, was particularly thrilled about the family reunion this time round, because she was looking forward to playing with her sister’s little son. But apparently, family has been sidelined in favor of some companionship.

One can’t help but wonder how she planned to keep her jaunt to New York a secret. It’s a small, small world after all. When we called her grandmother’s place in London, a relative said, “Oh, but Katrina is in New York.”

However Katrina said, “I’m very much in London. It’s a joke in my family about me being in New York because I’m harassed by many calls.”

Kaif also skipped beau (or is it seriously ex-beau now) Salman Khan’s birthday in favour of New York. Ranbir and Katrina met on the sets of Raajneeti but their friendship really took off when they shot Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. For the last few months, Ranbir has been in an on-off relationship with Deepika Padukone while Katrina’s relationship with Salman Khan has slowly ground to a halt.

Salman Khan’s Dum has gained him the 5th position in the Bollywood’s top actor’s countdown, of last 5 years. With 13 releases, 3 hits and 10 flops in the last 5 year Salman Khan movies have managed to earn up to 350 crores at the box office! Sallu charges more than 20 crores, which highlights his stardom and producers, even today, are more than happy to pay him.

Next in the list and at n the 4th position is the ‘Kambhakkt Hit’ Akshay Kumar who has given many successful hits to the industry such as ‘Singh is King’, ‘Welcome’, ‘Namastey London’ and many more. He has worked across 17 films in the last 5 years and has also increased his fees with every hit movie and now charges a whopping 31 crores for one flick. Akshay Kumar too has 3 projects on hand namely ‘De Dhana Dhan’ paired with Katrina followed by ‘Hello India’ and ‘Action Replay’.

At no 3 is the ‘Shahanshah of Bollywood’ Hrithik Roshan who seems to be following ‘Mr.Perfectionist’ Aamir Khan’s footsteps by doing less movies a year and giving his best shot ensuring a 100% hit. He has given hits like ‘Krish,’ ‘Dhoom 2’ and ‘Jodha Akbar’ in the last 5 years which have earned a huge number of 215 crores. After sweeping the box-office with his stellar performance in New York, John is busy wooing the youth to help eliminate poverty. Seems like, when John is not shooting for films; he is busy helping poor build their own homes.

John is involved with ‘Habitat of Humanity’ and is creating awareness about the campaigning with youth. ‘Habitat of Humanity’ is a project that helps poor build their own simple and decent home.

Back in 2007, John generated a lot of buzz, when his Join John’s Brigade got a tremendous response that saw millions of youth joining the campaign and volunteering their time for this cause.

For this, the real life hero and Bollywood icon is being given the title of ‘Global Hero of Habitat’. An honor that brings John in the league of other global celebrities the likes of Jon Bon Jovi; who is Habitat’s international hero.

John was overjoyed and appealed to the youth to devote their time to this noble cause, he says, “The honor and privilege is all mine and I thank Habitat for the opportunity it has given me, to make a difference to society. I once again appeal to all the youth to come make a difference, by action and let inaction be eliminated from their dictionaries, in helping address the issue of poverty housing in India and around the Globe.”

John has been long associated with ‘Habitat of Humanity’; it began with his involvement in the Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter work project at Lonavla in 2006. The actor has since then devoted time to help ‘Habitat of Humanity’ to bring about awareness to help the marginalized sections of the society.

It’s laudable that John can manage to sneak time from his hectic schedule and endorse such worthwhile cause by setting an example.

Akshay Kumar dances to Kareena Kapoor`s tunes

Posted by bhoot On June - 24 - 2009

Seems like Bollywood stars are highly obsessed with their names, so obsessed that they want it to be a part of the lyrics of the song they star in. After the very popular amongst girls, Akshay Kumar, it’s Kareena Kapoor who’s got a song with her name in it. In her recent flick Kambakkht Ishq, Karrena Kapoor is seen dancing to the tunes of a song which includes her nickname “Bebo” in the lyrics. She is seen dancing in her little pink dress looking absolutely fit and fine highlighting her perfect shape. She surely looks like a supermodel in the song and seems to surely grab attention with this song.
kareena-kapoor

However, this is not the first time that Bollywood has witnessed such an act, the handsome hunk Askhay Kumar had a title track in the movie Chandni Chowk to China which included his name and a list of all his qualities. The song did well but the movie had a hard luck at the box office…Lets see whether Bebo’s name does any wonders for Kambakkht Ishq or not. Take a look!

Karan Johar, presently busy shooting for My Name is Khan, has already locked on his next film as director. Reports say that Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan have agreed to be a part of Karan’s project. There is no doubt in the fact that Karan is fond of both Ranbir and Imran. In fact, he loved their act at an awards function this year. It seems the two have great personal chemistry that could translate well on the big screen.

It is learnt that the film will be in the vein of Hollywood hit High School Musical. Both Imran and Ranbir play their age and it will be a yuppie romantic drama.
It seems Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor are the two actresses being considered to play the roles opposite Ranbir and Imran.
Hope…we get to see all four together on-screen soon.

Salman warns Kareena

Mumbai: Salman Khan was at his humourous best on the sets of his forthcoming TV show 10 Ka Dum as he bonded with his star contestants Karisma Kapur and Kareena Kapoor. Known for his dedication to his fitness regime, Salman had some words of advice for Kareena, who has lost a lot of weight in the past in her bid to flaunt an eye-popping figure.
“Be careful not to lose too much weight. Men like women with some weight,” he told Kareena, adding, “Women who lose too much weight begin to look hard in the face and that’s not attractive. Don’t stand in front of a fan. You might just fly away.”

Kareena just sportingly flaunted a smile. Salman then went a step ahead to first compliment Karisma and then commented at her near-perfect figure. Salman and Karisma have a long list of flop films together and he had no qualms listing them all in front of the audiences too. Jokingly he told the audience, “One film with me turned her career — she became a big star.”

Jolie Overtakes Winfrey

Posted by tfreak On June - 9 - 2009

NEW YORK: Angelina Jolie has dethroned Oprah Winfrey as the world’s most powerful celebrity, according to Forbes.

The actress grabbed the No. 1 spot from the talk show queen on the magazine’s annual Celebrity 100 list, which ranks the rich and famous based on media exposure and career earnings over the past year.

Jolie, a reigning tabloid fixture, earned $27 million, bumping her up from third place on last year’s list, Forbes said, adding that she wields more power due to high-profile turns in hit films such as “Wanted” and “Kung Fu Panda.”

At No. 2, Winfrey is still the highest earner — $275 million.

Madonna came in third, trailed by Beyonce, Tiger Woods, Bruce Springsteen and Steven Spielberg.

Two other celebs tied up in Jolie’s tabloid universe — Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt — came in at eighth and ninth place, respectively.

Tenth place goes to Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant, thanks in part to endorsement deals scored after the Beijing Olympics.

About halfway down the list sits a very familiar face: President Barack Obama. At No. 49, Obama’s the first sitting head of state to appear on this Forbes fixture because of his worldwide fame, his historic election and his career as a best-selling author.

Newcomers to the list: Alec Baldwin (No. 91); Meryl Streep (No. 64); Toby Keith (No. 59); Rascal Flatts (No. 42); TV host Glenn Beck (No. 81); and teen singing superstar Taylor Swift (No. 69).

Although he’s one of the biggest acts in entertainment, Justin Timberlake went from 12th to falling off the list completely, since ending his lucrative “FutureSex/LoveShow” concert tour.

Jennifer Lopez, Johnny Depp and Tyra Banks also dropped off the list.

Manoj Kumar Turning Director

Posted by tfreak On June - 9 - 2009

manoj-kumar0906_l
NEW DELHI: Bollywood veteran Manoj Kumar is upbeat about donning the director’s hat once again in his golden jubilee year in the industry for an “Indo-Pak” love story.

The actor-turned-filmmaker may have moved on from the “Om Shanti Om” controversy, but maintains that what Shah Rukh Khan did was “dirty”.

“Though I had three subjects in mind, I decided to first go with ‘Indo-Pak: A Love Story’. The film will not revolve only around patriotism. It will have a human and romantic angle,” Manoj Kumar told.

“The film will highlight that there is a lot of commonalities between the two countries. We have the same features, our food is similar and, after all, a few years ago we were one single country,” said the 71-year-old actor, who was known as ‘Mr. Bharat’ for his patriotic films like “Upkaar”, “Shaheed” and “Purab Aur Paschim”.

Manoj Kumar said he chose such a theme as he was born in Abbottabad, a town of the North West Frontier Province located in Pakistan, adding that he would take a few Pakistani actors for the film.

“I was inclined to this subject since I have lived in Pakistan and now am living in India. I know the cultures of both the countries,” he explained. He is donning the director’s mantle after 1999 when he made “Jai Hind”.

“Shah Rukh did a dirty thing. When I reacted he then visited me, apologised and said he will remove the scene from the film, but he did not keep his promise. It was not that I get angry with people on everything, but I have to protect the image of Manoj Kumar. Later when he removed the scene, I dropped the matter,” Manoj Kumar said.

“It’s been two years and now I don’t have any grudges against him. He is just like a younger brother to me,” he added.

Manoj Kumar said he would like to cast new faces in his new venture though he likes Aamir Khan best among the current lot of heroes.

“I like Aamir’s work and I’m particularly happy that he is doing less and only meaningful work, but for my film I want fresh faces,” the Padma Shri awardee said.

“I am negotiating with a few actors, but nothing is confirmed as of now. I have decided to take one or two actors from Pakistan for the film,” he said.

Asked if he would like to act in his film or take up other acting assignments, the yesteryears actor said: “I will never impose myself on a script. If there is a suitable role for me in a film, then I will do it; otherwise I won’t push myself into it.”

“As far as signing any other film is concerned, I have always been very focused about the kind of work I want to do. In 50 years I have worked in only 42 films. I have always believed in quality and meaningful cinema and not quantity. If I get something like that, I will do it,” he added.
